Elongated, heavy body is greenish above but mostly silvery and unmarked, except in juveniles. The mouth is large and fitted with razor-sharp teeth. Juveniles have pale spots and may be confused with the Spanish Mackerel, but their bodies are slimmer. The lateral line dips sharply. Bluefish ? Color is steel blue shading to silvery white below. Dark spot usually shows at base of pectoral fin. Large mouth with prominent teeth. Forked tail.
